What is a Recycling Fee?

The mattress recycling fee is not a fee to have an old mattress removed: the fee is something that we're legally required to collect for purchases in California, Connecticut, Oregon, and Rhode Island. We pass the funds along directly to the state government. Your contribution helps subsidize the state's mattress recycling program.

Though you aren’t parting with your new mattress right now, the program takes into account that your mattress will be discarded one day. The program uses a network of participating cities, towns, retailers, recyclers, and other organizations to collect, transport, and properly recycle your old mattress. The fee also applies to foundations and bases containing fabric.
